I found these mysterious creatures on the eaves of my house garage. Some research revealed them to be wheel bugs. Note the wheel shaped device on their backs.

    1. I couldn't believe my eyes where I saw them on my house - they looked like something from outer space. Turns out they are great bugs to have around in that most of their prey are pest type insects. They will not win any beauty contests though! :) Posted 10 years ago

The wheel bug, in the family Reduviidae, is one of the largest terrestrial true bugs in North America, being up to 1.5 inches, or 38 mm, in length. A characteristic structure is the wheel-shaped pronotal armor.
