  1. Looking at the distribution range, it is not likely to be the correct species. Here's a key to the American species.

    1. Insects are so challenging. I typically use a bug ID website when I am trying to ID a bug and they are accurate and quick to respond. Posted 10 years ago
      1. Which site do you use? I think that http://bugguide.net is the most popular site with a focus on American species. You should always have the location in mind when identifying the species, because similar species often have a different distribution range. Anyway, this photo is not enough for a reliable ID, you need and overview of the entire body to see all the stripes. Posted 10 years ago
        1. That is the exact website that I use. I posted a shot yesterday that I call "mystery bug," and I had an ID from the members within minutes of my posting. Posted 10 years ago
          1. Did you remove the photo, because I don't see it in your profile, only the Southern Tussock Moth catterpillar is there? The search for Bombus pratorum didn't yield anything either. Posted 10 years ago
        2. No, I have not removed any photos Posted 10 years ago
          1. Maybe I have misunderstood. Looking at the other photo, it could be either Bombus pensylvanicus or Bombus auricomus.

The American bumblebee is a species of bumblebee found across North America in open fields, but its numbers are declining. It is similar in colour and range to the yellow bumblebee.
