  1. This looks like the same species and the same comment is still valid, please try to identify it or remove the ID.
Eye contact with a wasp This queen paper wasp makes her nest on my front porch so I thought I would get a shot for the family album! Mischocyttarus mexicanus, insects, paper wasp, queen paper wasp, queen wasp, wasp, wasp portrait

    1. It is but I am having difficulty here in that when I asked the experts, I was told it is a paper wasp, and I don't know more than they do so if someone wants to change it to what they think it is, I invite them so to do. Posted 10 years ago
      1. It sure is a paper wasp because it is a paper nest it is staying on. The whole genus Polistes are paper wasps, but different species are found in different areas. You have picked an Australian, not an American species. Many species are found in America. In order to try to identify it I need an overview of the pattern of the entire body.

        1. I looked some more on the choices given here and came up empty. Basically, the body is the same color as the head area - I tried common paper wasp, and it had the wrong coloration. I guess I will stop posting shots that I do not know the exact ID of in that it gets rather time consuming searching through choices which seem correct verbally, but turn out to be from another continent. 1. If you can upload an overview I will take a look too, small stripes and spots can make all the difference. Posted 10 years ago
        2. I will upload a shot that shows a side view of the body of the wasp. Posted 10 years ago
