  1. The red-veined darter is a European species. Here's a list of species found in Michigan and an identification key. Out of those twelve photos do you have some showing the face colour?

    1. Looks like Sympetrum rubicundulum to me. If you zoom in on his face, it looks like his head is turned, so we can see the side. The face looks like a cream-yellow color, consistent with S. rubicundulum. You can identify if you would like, if you agree, since you started working on this one first. The Ruby Meadowhawk is a species of dragonfly of the family Libellulidae. It is found in northern United States and southern Ontario, Canada. Adult males are identifiable by a distinctive orange to brown face and red bodies. Females faces have same colours as males; bodies are brown to dark-red.
