Jack pine, ''Pinus banksiana'', is an eastern North American pine. Its native range in Canada is east of the Rocky Mountains from Northwest Territories to Nova Scotia, and the north-central and northeast of the United States from Minnesota to Maine, with the southernmost part of the range just into northwest Indiana and northwest Pennsylvania. It is also known as grey pine and scrub pine.
In the far west of its range, ''Pinus banksiana'' hybridizes readily with the closely related lodgepole.. more

This is a great photo, and I'll explain why. It has a clear subject, being the pine tree. You positioned it in the frame in such a way that it leaves no room for confusion, so that means it has a great composition as well. Furthermore, this photo has atmosphere. It breaks a common rule of shooting against the light, but in this case, breaking that rule turned out well.
Comparing this photo to some of your others, my advise would be too put extra effort into bringing simplicity and focus to your photography. This requires patience, finding the right perspectives, watching the light, and learning about your subjects, diving into what it is that you're shooting. These are not easy lessons, I am a too rushed photographer myself, but ultimately quality over quantity is the best advise. Posted 10 years ago
