Yes dear, I will dear, in a minute dear! This is the first time I have encountered both a male and female red-bellied woodpecker at the same time and it was right on a tree in my front yard in Florida. Apparently, they are like the human species as the female seemed to be giving the male endless instructions as he intently listened between pecking on the tree. 1. Amazing, I never saw them together either, not even in a photo. Posted 10 years ago
    1. I can tell you when I walked out of my door and saw that happening on a tree in my front yard, I about broke my leg running back in the house to grab my camera and fortunately they stayed there and I got a nice series of shots. As much as I observe birds, I have never seen a male and female woodpecker together. Posted 10 years ago

The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a medium-sized woodpecker of the Picidae family. It breeds in southern Canada and the northeastern United States, ranging as far south as Florida and as far west as Texas. Its common name is somewhat misleading, as the most prominent red part of its plumage is on the head; the Red-headed Woodpecker, however, is another species that is a rather close relative but looks quite different.
