Lost in the Fog While hiking in the Selkirk Mountains of north Idaho, you have to be careful when fog like this arises. This time of year, fog swallows much of the mountain range, sometimes on and off throughout a day, sometimes for days at a time. The fog seems to always be present, and when it swallows your field of vision like this, you have to be careful about where you are going. It would be very easy to get turned around or lost at times like this. When the fog would get this thick, I would find a place to sit and rest until the fog would clear. 1. I am awful at directions, on your long hikes do you navigate by sight only, or do you have technical help? Posted 10 years ago
    1. I navigate by sight, landmarks, and my sense of direction. I do have a very keen built-in sense of direction. Very rarely do I get turned around. But I know in a situation that includes dense fog, and somewhere I have never hiked, can be a treacherous circumstance with less than favorable implications. It really is best to just sit and wait for conditions to get better so you have a clearer field of vision. Posted 10 years ago, modified 10 years ago
