Two species of crocodile inhabit Sri Lanka, the saltwater crocodile and the mugger crocodile. as the saltwater species has a broad snout, I conclude that this must be a mugger.

  1. i've had very close encounter with these.. We have few in lakes of our city of mumbai..

      1. not that close what they show on tv these dayss..
        Actually we were searching crocs & exhausted by heat we were resting on the shore.. my friend just said that ''hey, there is this big croc behind you..'' i thought he's kidding & but when i checked my back.. I realised that he wasn't.. then a moment later i told him the same.. So, we were resting on shore with two crocs watching us from Water.. And when they don't want to get located, they just Bring there eyes up.. Appearing like a Stone..

        Exactly what you've shot here but little deep..
        I must say you've shot a descent image here..

The mugger crocodile is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding countries. It is one of the three crocodilians found in India, the others being the gharial and the saltwater crocodile. It is a medium sized crocodile that mostly inhabits freshwater lakes, ponds, sluggish rivers, swamps and marshes.
