  1. The loggerhead shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) is the only member of the shrike family endemic to North America so it cannot be found in India. Of the few species which are found in India, this could be the brown shrike (Lanius cristatus).

    1. Thanks for correcting me. It is Long-Tailed Shrike ....... :) Posted 10 years ago
      1. It doesn't look much like a long-tailed to me - they have a rufous body with a grey head, this one is more evenly brownish with a slim white line over the black one around the eyes. Which reference did you compare it to?

          1. I still think this one is brown, not rufous and grey. The tail is not black either. The black mask has a white brow over it, which the Long-Tailed Shrike doesn't have. Posted 10 years ago, modified 10 years ago

The brown shrike is a bird in the shrike family that is found mainly in Asia. It is closely related to the red-backed shrike and isabelline shrike . Like most other shrikes, it has a distinctive black "bandit-mask" through the eye. and is found mainly in open scrub habitats, where it perches on the tops of thorny bushes in search of prey.
