Mugger Crocodile at Wilpaththu park, Sri Lanka Only two species of crocodile inhabit Sri Lanka, the saltwater crocodile and the mugger crocodile. Without a clear view on the snout, I have to assume that this is a mugger, mostly based on its size. They are typically in or around the many water pools during and after the dry season in Sri Lanka. The mugger crocodile is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding countries. It is one of the three crocodilians found in India, the others being the gharial and the saltwater crocodile. It is a medium sized crocodile that mostly inhabits freshwater lakes, ponds, sluggish rivers, swamps and marshes.
