Barn Swallow in Wilpaththu, Sri Lanka This is the first time I have ever photographed any swallow. They arrive as migrants in my home country the Netherlands during the summer (in fact, they are seen as an indicator of the start of summer), yet are often far away or flying at enormous speeds. I'm glad to finally have found a relaxed one at a reasonable distance. Asia,Barn swallow,Hirundo rustica,Sri Lanka,Wilpaththu Click/tap to enlarge Country intro

  1. Growing up they were a common site on my parents farm. We would see them flying in and out of barns to their nests, which were made of mud and plastered to the beams of the buildings. They are very chatty and flighty! Posted 10 years ago
