Something Moosey...
I spotted this cow moose this afternoon as I was exploring a new river drainage. She was a little reluctant to put up with my intrusive behavior at first. When I first spotted her, she was rather close (10 meters or so). Too close for both of us. Take one was a failed attempt.
After waiting a few minutes to let her settle down, I approached through the woods at a different angle. This time she spotted me first, and I saw her at about 20-25 meters. She had keyed in on me once again, but this time did not run. After watching her and moving slowly for several minutes, she decided I wasn't a threat and relaxed. She didn't move from this spot, but she did look around and only watched me part of the time.
A beautiful beast and a unique encounter that left me in total awe. Captured along the Pack River in north Idaho.

The moose or elk is a member of the New World deer subfamily and is the largest and heaviest extant species in the deer family. Most adult male moose have distinctive broad, palmate antlers; most other members of the deer family have antlers with a dendritic configuration.
