Camellia
Ancient Camellias (pre-1900) are a specialty at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Not only did Magnolia introduce over 150 cultivars of Japonica to America from the 1840's to 1940's, but it has organized and implemented a world-wide search for Ancient Camellias which are in threat of extinction.
At Magnolia Plantation there are over 1,000 cultivars of Japonica, more than any garden in America.

"Camellia japonica", known as common camellia, or Japanese camellia, is a species of flowering plant in the family Theaceae. There are thousands of cultivars of "C. japonica" in cultivation, with many colors and forms of flowers. In the U.S. it is sometimes called japonica.
