White-tailed Buck
A mature white-tailed buck pauses to take in his surroundings while browsing around the edge of a prairie in north Idaho. Note his swollen neck, which is an indicator of the "rut", which in deer terms, signifies mating season. The bucks necks swell up as they chase around does and fend off competitors.

The white-tailed deer, also known commonly as the whitetail and the Virginia deer, is a medium-sized species of deer native to North America, Central America, and South America as far south as Peru and Bolivia, where it predominately inhabits high mountain terrains of the Andes.
