  2. I think this is not a Coney because the coney groupers always have blue dots even when they change the background colors. This is most likely another case of Cephalopholis cruentatus.

    with Ferdy's recommendation I have changed your ID to Cephalopholis cruentata as this grouper is most likely a graysby and not a coney (the latter has blue dots instead of red). Thanks for the nice picture and hope you understand the change. Cheers, Marta

The Graysby, ''Cephalopholis cruentata'', is a Grouper in the Serranidae family from the Western Atlantic. It is found from North Carolina to southern Florida , Bermuda, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Its typical size is 15 to 25 cm in length, with a maximum size of 42 cm .
