  1. It's the African way :) Incredible photo, really a total family scene going on that I can keep looking at. One of your best! Posted 10 years ago
  2. Marvelous photo - a bit overcrowded... There are two other predators, probably flies, already feeding from behind on the pure bee. And another spider waiting to be invited for supper. Great shot! Posted 10 years ago
  3. Thank you both! I did notice the flies and in other shots there are quite a few of them all feasting on this bounty. Unfortunately I had to go to work so never got to see if the male on the right actually got to share. Posted 10 years ago
  4. Marvelous image Claire.

Oxyopes are little monsters. 'No Fear' personified!

Grass lynx spiders (Oxyopes) are very common in the grass and herb layer. They have a worldwide distribution and there are 27 species of Oxyopes known in South Africa.
Lynx spider (Oxis the common name for any member of the family Oxyopidae. Most species make little use of webs, instead spending their lives as hunting spiders on plants. Many species frequent flowers in particular, ambushing pollinators, much as crab spiders do. They tend to tolerate members of their own species more than most.. more
