Red-legged Seriema (Cariama cristata) I had to use my full 500mm zoom to capture this beautiful Seriema, who was sure to keep a big minimal distance. This is a real land bird, always on foot, fast to run, and nesting on the ground as well. They are fairly aggressive amongst each other and fight like roosters: feet first. The Red-legged Seriema or Crested Cariama is a mostly predatory terrestrial bird in the seriema family, included in the "Gruiformes" in the old paraphyletic circumscription, but increasingly placed in a distinct order Cariamiformes. The Red-legged Seriema inhabits grasslands from Brazil south of the Amazon to Uruguay and northern Argentina.
