Rainbow Lorikeet
One of the more charismatic members of Australia's bird life, the Rainbow Lorikeet, who goes by many pseudonyms, is a colourful reminder that spring has sprung in Central Queensland. They can be seen almost anywhere, either feeding from, or flying between tropical flowering trees. One of their favourites is the Schotia (Schotia brachypetala), whose flowers allow nectar to ferment. The result - a rabble of drunk parrots, all over the ground with wobbly boots, or in flight with wobbly wings!

The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Several taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species.
