    1. Most likely. Thank you. Posted 10 years ago
      1. Spiderwort is the common name for the whole genus Tradescantia including 75 species and an ID cannot be created for it, you have to narrow it down to one species. In this case it is very likely a hybrid. Andersoniana Group includes hybrids of T. virginiana, T. subaspera and T. ohiensis. It is also reffered to as Tradescantia × andersoniana. There are 2 options - either identify it as the parent species Tradescantia virginiana or create an ID for Tradescantia × andersoniana. Both of them would not be correct though: "These spiderworts were formerly listed as Tradescantia X andersoniana, but this name is invalid because the authors failed to include the required description when they proposed it in 1935. The name, T. virginiana, also has been used for these garden-origin hybrids, but this name properly refers to a naturally occurring species."

''Tradescantia virginiana'' is a species of ''Tradescantia'' native to the eastern United States. Spiderwort is commonly grown in gardens and many garden spiderworts seem to be hybrids of ''T. virginiana'' and other ''Tradescantia'' species.
