Short-winged Meadow Katydid - by Ymke Broeren I am posting this one on behalf of Ymke, my 13 year old niece who captured this shot in our garden. It was the first time she ever handled a DSLR or a macro scene. Given how heavy the combination is (D800 + 105mm) and how even the tiniest movement with this lens means a ruined shot, I am obviously extremely proud of her. She's also fearless towards insects, which I am not. Leptophyes punctatissima,Speckled bush-cricket,Ymke Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

  2. lol… child after my own heart (me who has been seen recently chasing various and often ugly insects around with my macro lens - sometimes even picking them up :p ). I love the striped eyes on the katydids. Posted 10 years ago
    1. I do all of that, the chasing part, but I have an irrational fear of touching insects or being touched by them. Can't help it, really :) Posted 10 years ago
