Devastation of Fire - II
This photo depicts the devastation fire can have on the environment. Although fire does kill the standing forest, new life rises from death. Fire has been a natural part of the western coniferous forests for many, many years. Fire helps seedlings to germinate and grow; the new seedlings grow and replace the old burned giants that once towered above and will eventually fall to make room for the next generation. Captured in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
''Pinus contorta'', with the common names Lodgepole pine and Shore pine, and also known as twisted pine, and contorta pine, is a common tree in western North America. Like all pines , it is an evergreen conifer.
