Small red damselflies mating I'm basing this identification on the golden brown abdomen. If I'm correct, this "coral damselfy" is a nice find, as it is a relatively new species in the Netherlands, slowly becoming more common from the south. I'm basing this identification on the golden brown abdomen. If I'm correct, this "coral damselfy" is a nice find, as it is a relatively new species in the Netherlands, slowly becoming more common from the south. In this scene, two of them are mating, with a focus on the bottom one.

The small red damselfly is a small damselfly flying in heathland bogs and streams. It is in the family Coenagrionidae.
