Silver Y moth hanging upside down, Heesch, Netherlands This is a relatively common species in the Netherlands during the summer months, after which it will return south to warmer grounds. It can be recognized from the yellow markings. In english, it is referred to as the "Y". In dutch, it is nicknamed the "pistol". Both terms refer to the same marking. The Silver Y is a migratory moth of the family Noctuidae which is named for the silvery Y-shaped mark on each of its forewings.
