The bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher, Muscicapidae. It, and similar small European species, are often called chats.

One of our favourite activities after taking photos is identifying the species. Jivko has done it for you. When you know the name of the species you can use the yellow "Identify species" button next to the photo to enter it into the species database. This will add some information about it from Wikipedia.
In this case it is a new species introduction and a very good capture so I have promoted it to the homepage. Posted 10 years ago
