Death to one, life to another The Gaur AKA Indian Bison (Bos gaurus) - I located this skull in Thengumarahada forest area, Nilgiri East, during a census, and as we can see in the image, there was still a bit of flesh left over on the top of the forehead when I found it. The area is home to Tigers, Leopards, and Crocodiles (Mugger), but it is usually Tigers and Crocodiles that hunts adult Gaurs.<br />

From the look of it, it appears like it may not have been a fully grown Gaur, but a sub-adult. Bos gaurus,Gaur,Geotagged,India, bos gaurus, death, forest, gaur, jungle, kill, nilgiris east, prey, skull, tamil nadu, thengumarahada Click/tap to enlarge

    1. I seem to have missed your comment somehow, sorry.

No, Travis, we are not allowed to bring back with us anything from the forest; especially skulls, bones, and anything else that belongs to a dead / living animal. May be dung is fine ;)

The gaur, also called Indian bison, is the largest extant bovine and is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. The species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1986, as the population decline in parts of the species' range is likely to be well over 70% during the last three generations.
