Map (butterfly), Netherlands This butterfly is named after the network of lines on the bottom of its wings. Another notable feature is that it has 2 distinct looks: a spring look, and a summer look. During spring, It is largely black and orange, whilst in the summer (illustrated here), there's less orange and more yellow and whites. The Map is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.
