I see water! The Indian Elephant (Elephas Maximus Indicus) - I did not own a camera back in the year 2008, and I had to rely on others for a camera. If I remember correctly, this is the first Elephant image I captured on a digital camera. I, and a few friends were on the way to Ooty, when these Elephants suddenly came in to light from inside the forest in to the open place viewable while traveling. The Indian Elephant is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to mainland Asia. Since 1986, "Elephas maximus" has been listed as endangered by IUCN as the population has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations, estimated to be 60–75 years. The species is pre-eminently threatened by habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation.
