  1. Quite amazing. Maybe I am ignorant but never having been to India, I always imagined it to be big overcrowded cities, interspersed with dense jungle, not mountainous like this. Its the same with many countries/continents I suppose, I was fortunate enough to visit Ethiopia and rather than the parched, starving land I expected, it was one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited. Likewise people who have never been to South Africa envisage a typical Africa landscape, barren except for a few acacias and dry dusty roads. When people visit me they bring all sorts of crazy stuff like chocolate and are amazed to see that South Africa is a bit like Europe, with lots of safari parks! Posted 11 years ago
    1. Despite being overly populated, the country is home to truly amazing places that will take your breath away! Dense forests, awesome wild animals (already bored of seeing Elephants :P), plenty of mountain ranges, beaches, pretty much everything one would want to see; incl. human swarms. Haha

I agree with you. It is hard to know what lies beneath a country's image without actually living inside of that country. Some foreigners visit here mainly to see the "poor and hungry" people - the famous stereotype, but will be in shock to find something entirely different than expected.

Visiting South Africa has been my long time dream now! I so want to be in the wild there and get up close with the the animals! Not to mention getting their pictures that are priceless; memories I want to live everyday with!

Which part of South Africa are you from, Claire?

  2. There are many countries in Africa where you can get magnificent sightings of the wonderful wildlife. I live right down the bottom on the coast in a little town called Plettenberg Bay, not exactly wildest Africa but it is a joy to be surrounded by monkeys and the the most amazing birds. 'Wild' Africa is quite some distance from me and I hope one day to get back out into the bush..one day! Posted 10 years ago
