Curious Black Bear
This black bear was spotted from the road while driving through the prairie country at the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in south-central Montana. We stopped to get a picture and couldn't see her, until she stood up about 40 meters from us! This is the only photo I was able to get just before she bolted away.

The American black bear is a medium-sized bear native to North America. It is the continent's smallest and most common bear species. Black bears are omnivores with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave forests in search of food.
