It will only take a minute, my love
Golden orb-web Spider (Nephila Pilipes) - One of the biggest Spiders in the world. I spotted this Spider on the way to Mandalpatty, Corrg. This is was the first time ever I witnessed such a giant spider, and it was quite scary to witness it just hanging down from a tree. Luckily, I got to capture both, Male and Female spiders in one picture!
Females can grow to a body size of up to 7 cm overall, but their male counterpart grow to a body size of merely 5 mm overall. Species from Taiwan have been known to reach over 5 in (130 mm = 13 cm), legspan included, in mountainous country.

"Nephila pilipes" is a species of golden orb-web spider. It resides all over countries in East and Southeast Asia as well as Oceania. It is commonly found in primary and secondary forests and gardens.

Nice. I think this photo did the 20,000th place an honor ;) Posted 11 years ago
Even Wiki's description of up to 5cm in body length is still pretty scary.
Quite beautiful, one of my favourite types of spider, great shot. Posted 10 years ago
Sorry about the small discrepancy in the description (still confused as to where I got that info. from). Almost 7 cm is the largest specimen ever recorded in females, as per Wiki. Species from Taiwan have been known to reach over 5 in (130 mm = 13 cm), legspan included, in mountainous country. Posted 10 years ago, modified 10 years ago
