Portrait of a Diadem Survivor
Macro shot of a Diadem Spider/Cross Orbweaver perched at the center of her web (males don't usually spin webs) waiting for prey.
She is missing the second leg on her right and half of the back leg on her right. Not sure what happened but she is still able to move quickly and hide, though luckily my flash didn't scare her off :)
Technical: Fuji X-E1 with manual focus Minolta 50mm lens + Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter. Flash from YongNuo 560III in the hotshoe with an 8" "Polaroid" octagonal softbox on it pointed down.

The spider species "Araneus diadematus" is commonly called the European garden spider, diadem spider, orangie, cross spider and crowned orb weaver. It is sometimes called the pumpkin spider, although this name is also used for a different species, "Araneus marmoreus". It is an orb-weaver spider found in Europe and North America.
