  2. It is hard to tell from the picture. The underside of wings but anyway, it was the closest coloring I can find from matching the butterflies that were exhibited at that time. I did go through the species identification. Thanks...so I will leave it off. Posted 11 years ago

The Giant Emperor or Giant Charaxes is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found throughout the Afrotropical ecozone below the Sahel.

The wingspan is 75–85 mm in males and 85–105 mm in females. The flight period is year-round but more common in late summer to autumn.
