  1. Incredible close up shot. I just watched a National Geographic movie "The Last Lion." I would not be able to see lion close up like that where I live. Great movie , very emotional ...and of course, lions are diminishing in numbers from 450,000 fifty years ago to around 20,000. Thanks for sharing this picture. Posted 11 years ago

The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
