Carpenter Ants and Larva Out of curiosity sake I peeled off a small piece of bark on my trail around the house this evening and I found ants hard at work caring for their larva.. unfortunately, I am sure, they now have to relocate.     1. Dont know why I didnt find it the first time? But I would like an opinion if that is okay? They might actually be Camponotus nearcticus? What do you think?

      1. Hard to tell in this case :) So, I'll flip the question...what reasons do you have to believe this is the Black Carpenter Ant? If there's logic behind your choice, it is ok. Few of us here are scientists. We simply strive as a community to get species identification as right as we can. Sometimes this includes an educated guess based on likelihood. As long as it does not concern completely random guessing without any evidence, it is generally accepted. Furthermore, anybody is free to challenge identifications. Posted 11 years ago
