  1. Wow, didn't expect this to be a new species, as they look so similar:

    1. In the Kruger National Park in South Africa there are 4 species. Burchell's, Meve's, Cape glossy, and the Greater Blue-eared. A brilliant orange eye means a Cape Glossy or a Greater Blue-eared. Then if you look at the belly, the Cape Glossy it has a green sheen, the Greater Blue-eared it is a deep blue. So it is a process of elimination. (The Greater blue-eared also has that non iridescent patch behind the eye). Posted 11 years ago
      1. That is very useful, thanks! Posted 11 years ago
      2. Note: this is the first time I see a scanner in the exif, funny detail :) Posted 11 years ago
        1. I think that most of the pictures have been scanned. In the year 2000 we were still using 400 ASA film. But what do you mean by funny detail?? (I have also touched up some"age spots" here and there). Posted 11 years ago
          1. I mean that JungleDragon will detect the exif info from images, these are displayed in the block on the right. Normally they show things like the camera used, and camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed, aperture. On this photo, it has detected that the "camera" is in fact the "HP Scanjet e709n" Posted 11 years ago

The greater blue-eared starling is a bird that breeds from Senegal east to Ethiopia and south through eastern Africa to northeastern South Africa and Angola. It is a very common species of open woodland bird, and undertakes some seasonal migration.
