
The musk beetle is a Eurasian species of longhorn beetle belonging to the subfamily Cerambycinae, tribe Callichromatini. Its name comes from the musky smell it emits.

And I can't help sharing this story...in Malaysia a few years ago I was on a small walk on my own just outside the lodge checking the bushes for birds. I didn't do macro then. Out comes an insect so large that I could hear it walking through the grass, almost like a rabbit. It was this giant longhorn thing:
Poor photo, but it scared me senseless.
