  1. Interesting! Would you happen to know the exact species of sea lion? Posted 11 years ago
    1. No I'm sorry I couldn't figure that out. Posted 11 years ago
    2. there are only two species in that area: Steller Sea Lions (Eumetopias jubatus) and California Sea Lions (Zalophus californianus). The Steller is double the size of the California. It is hard to tell from the picture which it is.

      1. Excellent, thank you for helping. If you're confident enough about the correct species, you're free to identify it at the photo. Posted 11 years ago
        1. No...I do not know which of the 2 species it is. Size is the determining factor and Steller's is probably double the size of the California. I just have nothing to compare it with in the picture itself. Posted 11 years ago

The California sea lion is a coastal eared seal native to western North America. It is one of six species of sea lions. Its natural habitat ranges from southeast Alaska to central Mexico, including the Gulf of California. California sea lions are sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females, and have a thicker neck, and a protruding sagittal crest.
