  1. This one brings back memories. I don't know if you remember, but over 3 years ago I asked you permission to upload this photo, as initial "filling" of JungleDragon, which was then pretty much empty:

I am glad you are now uploading it using your own account. I propose that I delete the one under my account, yet I have one question: there seems to be a difference in species, do you know which is the correct one?

  2. Oh, and the fact that I remember a photo over 3 years old should be seen as a great compliment, as I have a poor memory :) Posted 11 years ago
    1. No worry, we both have ;) Posted 11 years ago
  3. Nice shot Wendy. I remember seeing them as a kid in Florida. Of course, they never looked quite like that when I saw them! Posted 11 years ago

  4. From today's Facebook post:

Contrary to their carnivorous image, some sharks are NOT dedicated meat-eaters! The bonnethead shark (Sphyrna tiburo), which lives in warm waters of the western hemisphere, is the first species of shark to be outed as a true omnivore. In addition to feeding on crustaceans and mollusks, they ingest large amounts of seagrass. In fact, seagrass makes up approximately 62% of their diet! And, this isn’t coincidental. Scientists have found enzymes in the digestive systems of these sharks that are required to properly break down plant matter. The seagrass is an integral component of their diet, and the nutrients from it are being used to maintain the health of the animal. If bonnethead sharks are happily munching and digesting their greens, then perhaps other shark species are as well! {Spotted by JungleDragon user, Wendy} #JungleDragon

The bonnethead shark or shovelhead, ''Sphyrna tiburo'', is a member of the hammerhead shark genus ''Sphyrna''. The Greek word ''sphyrna'' translates as ''hammer'', referring to the shape of this shark's head - ''tiburo'' is the Taino word for ''shark''.
