Common Mormon butterfly in butterfly park "Vlinders aan de Vliet" I&#039;m having trouble identifying this butterfly, which I captured at butterfly park &quot;Vlinders aan de Vliet&quot; in the Netherlands. I&#039;ve been using the following to identify other spottings at that park...<br />

Common Mormon butterfly in butterfly park "Vlinders aan de Vliet"

I'm having trouble identifying this butterfly, which I captured at butterfly park "Vlinders aan de Vliet" in the Netherlands. I've been using the following to identify other spottings at that park...

  1. Ferdy, I guess in this park there are butterflies from all over the world? Is that so. This one looks too much to Common mormon, Papilio polytes, but it is distributed in Asia! Also, as far as I see on the photo, the hind wings are a bit damaged - the tails are missing, that's why it is confusing. Posted 11 years ago
    1. Yes Jivko, these butterflies can come from anywhere in the world. It's a green house with an artificial tropical climate. I checked a few example photos of the Common mormon, and I believe that ID is correct. Thanks! Posted 11 years ago

Papilio polytes is a common species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed across Asia. This butterfly is known for the mimicry displayed by the numerous forms of its females which mimic inedible red-bodied swallowtails, such as the common rose and the crimson rose.
