Captured in butterfly park "Vlinders aan de Vliet" in Leidschedam, the Netherlands. These very large caterpillars can be identified by their large green body, but above all by the red "shark fin" in the middle of their back. At the top of the photo in the background you can see such a fin from the side.

"Caligo eurilochus", the forest giant owl, is an owl butterfly ranging from Mexico, through Central America, to the Amazon River basin in South America. The type locality is Suriname. Several subspecies are recognized, but many more have been proposed.
