African elephants in Chobe National Park

  1. This picture was taken in Chobe National Park, Botswana at the beginning of the rainy season (Nov). Not much rain had come so far and most of the elephants had migrated to the southern parts of the park but this small herd had such a small new baby that they had delayed migrating until the little one was a bit older. 1. Welcome to JungleDragon, MaggieE! Here's a few starter tips:

      - Please set a meaningful title for your photo. "Africa_Nov_2011_156" probably makes only sense to yourself. A good idea is to include the species and location in the title, for example "Herd of African Elephants in Botswana drylands". You can set the title and description using the "Edit details" button below the photo.

      - You are currently using the comment field to set a photo description. Please use the description field for it.

      - Somebody has already identified the species for you (to the right of the photo), but you are expected to do this yourself when you know the species.

It is very important on this site to describe photos correctly, otherwise almost nobody will see it. If you have any questions about the process, ask away, we're here to help.

The African bush elephant is the larger of the two species of African elephant. Both it and the African forest elephant have usually been classified as a single species, known simply as the African elephant, but recent evidence has seen the forest elephant classified as a distinct species . Some authorities still consider the currently available evidence as insufficient for splitting African elephants into two species.
