This garter snake lives in the wood pile on the back of our property. I found him enjoying the sunshine on this day and I was able to get this picture of him before he returned to the cover of the brush.

  1. This is a good example of a maritime garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis pallidula) The dark striping is close to non existent and the spotting is well defined. Posted 11 years ago

The Common Garter Snake is a snake indigenous to North America. Most garter snakes have a pattern of yellow stripes on a brown or green background and their average length is about 50 cm, maximum about 125 cm.
