Hard At Work
As I was practicing my handheld macro skills on some clover with my new EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens and my Canon 7D, a honeybee decided to take a sip out of the flower I was practicing on. I quickly shifted the focus point to the bee's eye and kept rocking to focus, letting the 7D's continuous drive mode do its thing. This was one of the shots I got (most of the others were unusable due to focus issues). This bee is hard at work! When you zoom into this image on the computer you can see pollen (I assume it's pollen) all over its head, upper body and legs. Talking about immersing yourself in your job!! Taken on 2014-07-05 at 1311 hrs on a berm outside the perimeter fence at Paine Field, Everett, Washington State, USA.

The western honey bee or European honey bee is the most common of the 7–12 species of honey bee worldwide. The genus name "Apis" is Latin for "bee", and "mellifera" is the Latin for "honey-bearing", referring to the species' production of honey.
