Wasp Spider with prey
Wasp Spider (Argiope Bruennichi) with prey. The wasp spider first wraps the prey and then injects a paralysing venom and a protein dissolving enzyme.
In the lower part of the web a zigzag shape can be seen. This is called the stabilimentum, or web decoration. It is still not clear what the purpose of this stabilimentum is.
"Argiope bruennichi", or the wasp spider, is a species of orb-web spider distributed throughout central Europe, Northern Europe, north Africa and parts of Asia. Like many other members of the genus "Argiope", it shows striking yellow and black markings on its abdomen.
