Yellow Belly Not a great photo as I left the camera at home but I wanted to share the species anyway. This is a Western Yellow Bellied Racer from Colorado and it was the first time i've seen this species in the wild. He's in his typical defensive posture with a flicker of the tongue to make it interesting. ''Coluber constrictor'' is a species of nonvenomous, colubrid snake, endemic to North America and Central America. Eleven subspecies, including the nominotypical subspecies, are recognized, which as a group are commonly referred to as the eastern racers.
