  1. Black Winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) with four little ones in a tiny mud-island they had made their home at the Bhigwan Wetlands, India. I noticed both the parents took turns to care for the little ones. After the sun set, the chicks huddled up with the parent who kind of 'sat over them' to provide the much needed warmth and security. The black-winged stilt is a widely distributed very long-legged wader in the avocet and stilt family. The scientific name "H. himantopus" was formerly applied to a single, almost cosmopolitan species. It is now normally applied to the form that is widespread in Eurosiberia and Africa and which was formerly regarded as the nominate subspecies of "Himantopus himantopus" "sensu lato".
