Colorado Deer We stumbled upon a group of 8-10 deer while walking through the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were not at all disturbed by our presence, and I was able to get some close shots using my Nikon 70-300mm telephoto lens. I loved the serenity of this fawn grazing and am happy I got to capture this sweet, peaceful moment. The mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a deer indigenous to western North America; it is named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. Two subspecies of mule deer are grouped into the black-tailed deer.
