The Grand Giant

This is a Galapagos Giant tortoise from my visit to one of the park reserves. A week or two after my visit lonesome george, who i was fortunate enough to see, died and was the last of his species (Chelonoidis nigra abingdonii).

The Galápagos tortoise

The Galápagos tortoise or Galápagos giant tortoise is the largest living species of tortoise and 10th-heaviest living reptile, reaching weights of over 400 kg and lengths of over 1.8 meters. With life spans in the wild of over 100 years, it is one of the longest-lived vertebrates. A captive individual lived at least 170 years.
