Spot the species This photo contains a species, and it's not the plant/tree I'm talking about. Does anybody know where it is and what it is? The first one to solve this puzzle will have a deciding say in where the next wildlife donation goes to (which will take place at 17,000 images), for as long as that donation cause meets basic criteria (established organization, not directly affiliated to you). 1. I've identified it, but I'll let someone else try. I have one of these in my collection - perfect camouflage. Posted 11 years ago
    1. How come I am not surprised :) Generous of you though to give somebody else a chance. Posted 11 years ago
  2. Oh, and one more clarification: It may be possible that you'll identify a species that I did not even see myself. The winner though, is the person identifying the species I *intended* to hide. Posted 11 years ago
  3. Nice puzzle. May I give a tip? It's already in one of the lists.
Unfortunately I haven't had chance to capture this beauty so far.

  4. Oh my goodness! Zoomed in to max and think I know what it is (but not the exact species). I too though will give someone else a chance as I have already nominated a couple of charities previously.
    Love this challenge btw!

  5. Ive found a butterfly. dont know the environment but my guess is that it s a Gonepteryx rhamni. Posted 11 years ago
    1. Correct! Well done, Ellen, you've won! You now have to honor of selecting a wildlife donation cause. As said, there are 2 conditions: 1) it must be an established wildlife charity 2) it must not be directly affiliated to yourself. Give it some thought and please let us know :) Posted 11 years ago
  6. Is the Vlinderstichting an established wildlife charity. I am fond of butterfly's and dragonfly's. If not my second choise is the WSPA

    1. Thank you, yes, that would be a valid donation choice. I will donate to them once we reach 17,000 images. Posted 11 years ago
  7. thank you Posted 11 years ago
    1. hi Ellen, your wish has been granted. Donation made:

JungleDragon donates to the butterfly foundation! JungleDragon donates to wildlife charities for every 1,000 photos shared on the site. This time we crossed the 17,000 photos milestone. The donation target was selected based on this puzzle:<br />

Ellen de Koster won that challenge, so she was in charge of deciding on the donation target. She picked the "Vlinder Stichting" (Butterfly Donation), an organization in the Netherlands which aims to protect and recover the butterfly and dragonfly species. JungleDragon just donated 75 EURO to that organization. Caligo atreus,Donations,Europe,Leidschedam,Macro,Netherlands,Vlinders aan de Vliet,Yellow-edged Giant Owl

''Gonepteryx rhamni'' is a butterfly of the family Pieridae. It lives throughout the Palearctic zone and is commonly found across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Across much of its range, it is the only species of its genus, and is therefore simply known locally as the brimstone.
