Javan munia is a small bird that can be easily found in Indonesian archipelago, especially in the rice field. For many times, they are the enemy of farmers, since these birds feed on paddies. In Bali, like in other part of Indonesia, farmers and their family will take turn guarding their rice field from the attack of the birds. In a particular season, the number of these birds can threaten the harvest.

The Javan munia is a species of estrildid finch found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It is found in subtropical/ tropical dry shrubland and grassland habitat. The status of the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
They are known to feed on algae.
